No offense to those temporarily or permanently disabled, but ... if you walk with a limp ... why would you be wearing high heels?

Toya! That's awful! People with limps shouldn't be stylish??

No, it's not the style I'm referring to - BTW, there are quite cute and stylish flat shoes. What I'm referring to is the potential for injury when wearing high heels *anyway* - even for those of us without limps and used to wearing heels, you can suddenly trip, fall, twist and ankle or whatnot. Why add insult to injury?

Maybe they're practicing their balance? I dunno. We should ask them directly.

Like I said, it's not to create offense. It's just that, a while back, when I'd twisted my ankle and had quite a limp, I gave up wearing my heels for the sake of healing. I don't think the lady I saw this morning was permanently disabled. I believe she's had some sort of accident that's causing her limping. So, it just seemed ill-advised to me. Now, maybe she had a meeting and therefore wanted to dress up or whatever. Still ... just seems to be not the best shoe option.

Pride ... that, I get. That, and the love of heels.

You know that I--of all people--am aware of the plethora of cute/stylish flats. I much prefer flats, and I wasn't implying flats can't be stylish.

I get this question (modified) a lot. People have asked me since ninth grade, "Ohmigod, why do you wear heels when you're already so freaking tall?" Your question is the same thing in my opinion.

BTW, I appreciate your responses to comments even though I believe you are in no way obligated to justify your blog statements.

I figure if people take the time to read and comment on my blog entries, I should at least show the courtesy of responding. I know that blogs are online diaries or whatever, but to me, they're also ways to open dialogue and meet folk. So, there ya go.

As for justifying ... nah. I gave up the need to justify my opinions years ago, when I realized that it doesn't make any difference anyway. People are gonna think what they're gonna think - rational justifications aside.
